The Warning

Many people that have epilepsy know what that scary feeling is when they feel a seizure approaching , as a parent of a child who has epilepsy I feel the same fear as him . It’s hard seeing your child play and then out of no where they show signs of a seizure approaching and you have to act fast and get them to safety. These signs and warnings are called Auras. A aura is a disturbance or a symptom that happens , seconds, mintues or even hours before a seizure occurs .

Different types of auras:

  • Tingling
  • Numbness
  • Electric shock sensation
  • Headache
  • Suddenly really tired
  • Stomach pain /Nausea
  • A strange taste
  • Hearing voices/sounds
  • Anxiety
  • Visual hallucinations
  • Jerking of a limb
  • Feeling separated from your body

These are just a few aura symptoms people have experienced. If your child or love one tells you they are having a aura, please try to get them to a safe place even if you are out in public they can sit or lay down to prevent injury . Also not everyone has that aura feeling and not every seizure gives you an aura . This may sound weird to say but auras can a really be a good thing, it warns some people in enough time to make a phone call for help, or to lay down or whatever they need to do to stay safe during a seizure.

Comment some auras you or a love one may have

  1. My aura is usually a feeling of deja vu. This is a fairly common one. It makes even more since now that I had so many seizures last winter where I could remember more of what was happening in my head during them. I was reliving childhood memories…good ones…and literally felt like I was reliving them again.
